MINNEAPOLIS, USA -- MoneyGram International, a leading global money transfer company, announced on Wednesday that it would temporarily reduce its money transfer service fee from all US and Canada agent locations to El Salvador from Nov 18 to Dec 2. MoneyGram offered the temporary fee reductions in the days after Hurricane Ida to support Salvadorans recover from this deadly storm.

“MoneyGram is eager to help the people in El Salvador continue their recovery and respond to the urgent needs following Hurricane Ida,” said John Warner-Gutierrez, vice president Latin America and Caribbean for MoneyGram International. “In addition, MoneyGram understands how vital it is for families and friends to support one another especially in times of great need. By temporarily reducing fees, we’re working to help families deliver more funds for the essential needs of their loved ones in El Salvador.”

Beginning Nov. 18, customers in the US and Canada can send up to $1,000 to El Salvador for only $8.50 from any agent location. In the US, customers can send up to $899 online for the same fee.

Warner-Guitierrez added, “We tend to see an increase in money transfers to affected regions following wide-scale disasters. Our goal is to provide families more choices to maximize the funds that could be sent directly to their loved ones to support the unique needs that arise following a disaster.”

In El Salvador, MoneyGram customers can collect their money transfer funds at any of the Citi branches or other locations, including Banco Agricola, Banco Azteca, Banco Promerica, Elektra, Fedecaces, Fedecredito and Scotiabank.
